At Blas Y Tir, we’re really proud to promote Welsh produce with Pembrokeshire County Council’s Food Team/Produce Mark. And along the way, we’ve harvested a few awards!
Of course Blas Y Tir isn’t just about potatoes. Other great Welsh veg in the range includes cauliflower, Savoy and green cabbage, leeks, broccoli and spring onions. But it’s our not-so-humble spuds that have captured the awards and made regional headlines since the brand was launched in 2010.
In 2009, potatoes scooped not one but two ‘Spud Oscars’ when Blas Y Tir’s Maris Peer Pembrokeshire Earlies got Wales the True Taste’s Gold award and our Estima baking potato won the Silver. The potato after-party was spectacular!
In 2011, Blas Y Tir was recognised as ‘Best New Pembrokeshire Product of the Year’ in the Produce Mark Awards for Wales, presented at the Pembrokeshire County Show.
And later in the year, our potato newcomer Rudolph blushed an even deeper shade of red than usual when it galloped to a Gold, again at the ‘Wales the True Taste’ awards.
“We’re happy to win awards, not just to celebrate the hard work of our grower teams, but because more Welsh shoppers get to choose home-grown and locally-packed veg,” says Huw Thomas, MD of parent company Puffin Produce.
Here’s to a star-studded 2012!
