Pembrokeshire County Show Highlights 2017

Puffin Produce County Show StandTuesday 15th August saw the return of the annual Pembrokeshire County Show to the County Show Ground in Haverfordwest.

Vegetables on display at County ShowThe sun shone as the show opened, welcoming visitors from both near and far to experience fantastic food producers, a show programme full of entertainment and a whole array of fantastic arts, crafts and agricultural produce to inspire. At Puffin we’re always pleased to welcome our growers to the stand for an informal growers lunch, which is our chance to say thank you for working with us throughout the year and for them to interact with one and other, sharing hints and tips for the harvest ahead.

This year we also welcomed Scarlets’ players Rob Evans and Rhys Fawcett to the stand, who came for a quick picture and had the chance to meet our growers ahead of our upcoming sponsorship season.

Huw Thomas, Puffin Produce MDOn Wednesday 16th August, Huw Thomas (Puffin’s Managing Director) was awarded the prestigious Idris Davies Memorial Award for his contribution to the Pembrokeshire Agricultural Community. The Western Telegraph reported “Mansel Raymond, Chairman of the Idris Davies Memorial Award Management Committee, said: “Huw has made an outstanding contribution to the agricultural community in Pembrokeshire in many ways, over many years and continues to do so now at Puffin Produce. He joins some excellent company in becoming this year’s winner of the Idris Davies Memorial Award.” It’s a great achievement for Huw and Puffin Produce as a whole, and we’re very honoured to have been chosen.

Throughout the week we also collected donations for the DPJ foundation, a local charity to Pembrokeshire, which aims to break the stigma of mental health and support young men in our rural community. The charity plans to talk to men within the rural community, deliver advice and let them know they are not alone. This is a charity very close to Puffin and the agricultural community as a whole in Pembrokeshire, and is a really important cause for us to support. Throughout the week we raised an amazing £1,100 for the charity! Thanks to all who donated.

Overall another very successful County Show, with lots of great comments from consumers and growers. Thanks to all who popped by the stand – we’ll see you again next year!
